 There are many fabulous ways to celebrate autumn in Oregon. Hike through majestic forests or walk down neighborhood streets to revel in the vibrant colors of fall leaves. Or visit a pumpkin patch and get lost in a corn maze. Another great option is to revisit Oregon’s history at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park!

Why visit this park in the fall? Well, if you’re a history buff, you’ll know that Lewis and Clark and their Corps of Discovery crew were at Fort Clatsoff in the fall and winter months. So, you’ll get to experience a bit of what they did, particularly if it’s cold, wet, and windy!

Located on the coast near Astoria in a temperate rainforest, the park also offers immense natural beauty. So, really this destination has it all: history, adventure, and nature all in one outing.Visiting the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park is great any time of year but in fall you get to experience it as the Lewis and Clark adventurers did.

After visiting the museum, tour the historically accurate buildings that give you a real sense of what life was like for the people on the expedition.



Take your time as you explore the exhibits as there is so much to learn and discover!



When I visited with my kids, touring the museum exhibits and buildings was a big hit but what they loved best was hiking the paths through the forest to the water.

The surrounding stands of trees are gorgeous. And since it's fall in Oregon, expect to experience a full range of potential weather from warm and sunny to blistery cold or a torrential downpour. But regardless of the weather, or maybe because of it, the forest will be beautiful.

Just remember to bring your raincoats, umbrellas, and lots of layers!
