- Psychocybernetics — By Maxwell Maltz
- Rich Dad Poor Dad — By Robert Kiyosaki
- Think And Grow Rich — By Napoleon Hill
- The Power of Full Engagement — By James E. Loehr & Tony Schwartz
- The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck — By Mark Manson
- The 4-Hour Workweek — By Timothy Ferriss
- Grit — By Angela Duckworth
- The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership — By John C. Maxwell
- The War of Art — By Steven Pressfield
- 100 Ways to Stay Motivated — By Grant Cardone
Most of the books above all have the same basic theme: Understand yourself so you can change your thoughts which will change your actions.
It is in understanding ourselves first that we know where our strengths, weaknesses and problems lie.
Without the understanding of who we are and who we want to become we will keep doing the same things we have always done that lead to the same results.
‘Psychocybernetics’, ‘Think and Grow Rich’, ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck’, ‘Grit’, and ‘The War of Art’, are all books that work on changing your mindset first.
The point of these books is for you to change how you view yourself, the mentality and reasons you have for doing what you are doing, and how to overcome the resistance you may feel to working harder.
These books will build your baseline for success.
Of course there are many more that help, but these books give you a well-rounded baseline.
The other books, ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’, ‘The Power of Full Engagement’, ‘The 4-hour workweek’, ‘The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership’, and ‘100 Ways to Stay Motivated’ give you tools to expand on the baseline.
They are filled with countless tricks and habits, and much more practical in nature.
These books are action-oriented and will not only create a solid work-life-balance, but will also get you to understand what that even means.
Following in their actions will lead you to squeeze the most out of yourself in the best way possible.
In conjunction these books create a push and failsafe.
You push yourself to be better and stronger, you grind and break through the resistance, and when you have fully exhausted yourself you fall back upon the mindset, beliefs and self-image you’ve created.
This makes you fall softly, worry less, and rise sooner so you can push forward once again.
My Personal Recommendation is that you read a summary of all of them and then read them in the order above.
This way you get the golden nuggets right away and access to all the tools.
You will likely be overwhelmed with the amount of tools available, and, as most of them are really good and valuable tools, prioritizing which tools to use first or which idea to follow is hard.
However, if you take the tools in and don’t worry about how to use them right away, you will rise much faster as you work your way through the details of each book.
CAUTION: Please only continue on to the next book ONLY once you have given yourself at least a few weeks to ingrain the teachings of the previous book.
If you speed through all books you will get less than half their value.
Give each book the time to affect your life.
This may mean you have to re-read the same book a few times and spend a bit more time on each, but, in the end, you will find it worth it.
Sidenote: Reading these books as soon as you can will start you on the path to success. The earlier the better, but better late than never.
Summarizing the whole of Self-Improvement, Success, and Mindset into 10 books barely scratches the surface.
My recommendations are purely based on what has worked for me and the patterns I’ve seen with clients.
On average, this path yields the highest benefits.
You are, however, not average.
If you find yourself not understanding the teachings of one of the books, or they do not really speak to you, give it a few days and try reading it again, then, if there’s still no insights to be gained, put that book on hold and move on to the next or fill that slot with another book not on this list.
Every path is unique so do not get too stuck on this being the best path.
This one is a guideline but not a set-in-stone path.
Trust yourself and your gut feeling.
Ask yourself what you need to learn right now to progress and find the book that speaks to you the most.
This is usually the best way to get ahead.
And then, whenever you do not know how to move forward, refer to this list.
